Public holidays that actually change the calendar

24 December: closed all day for the dome experience many travellers assume is always on.

31 December: shortened hours with an earlier last admission—plan fireworks elsewhere if you were hoping for a 10 p.m. ramp walk.

2026 dome maintenance (illustrative blocks)

The Bundestag publishes multi-day closures for cleaning and technical work. During those periods the dome ramps can be off limits while the roof terrace sometimes stays open. Audio distribution may pause when the dome route is closed.

Tuesdays during sitting weeks can end earlier—this catches people who skim-read "open until eight" and miss the footnote.

When is it nicest—and quietest?

For calm ramps, try Tuesday–Thursday mornings right after opening. For photographs with warm sidelight, book a slot in the golden-hour window in summer and accept that you will not be alone. For winter atmosphere, bring layers: the terrace is exposed even when the glass keeps rain off the ramps.

Official phone line (changes, edge cases)

The Bundestag lists a visitor hotline for dome-related questions—typically weekday hours. If you are editing an itinerary on the ground, a two-minute call beats a twenty-minute Reddit scroll.
